If your sewer line is backing up into your basement (or lowest drain in your home or office), or you’ve noticed a slow drain, give us a call to discuss your concerns.
There are several reasons a sewer line can have a backup, read our informative blog post for helpful trouble shooting tips . Most sewer line breaks, pipe offsets or blockages occur from:
The final common issue we correct is called a sewer line belly. These repairs are often triggered during a real estate transaction, and frequently are viewed as unnecessary repairs. A belly in your sewer line is essentially a low section of pipe that consistently holds water. The majority of bellies we are directed to correct in sewer lines are not issues that we would correct on the sewer lines in our own homes, they are simply low spots that hold water until the next flush, shower, or load of laundry drains.
That being said, if your sewer line is flat, with not enough gravity fall between where the sewer line exits your home, to where the sewer line connects to the shared main line, it might be very necessary to fix the low spot. When soliciting bids for a necessary sewer line belly repair, it is important to consider that just replacing the pipe in the sewer line belly may not fix the backup issue, the length of the sewer line repair may need to be extended, in order to ensure the correct slope of the pipe.
We have found that the use of low flow toilets installed in homes with older sewer lines, or flat sewer lines, have the most common backup issues. Visualize your sewer line like a water slide, if there isn’t enough water regularly flowing to flush the line clear, you should plan to have your line cleaned and scoped regularly.
Whatever the reason for a sewer line break or blockage, getting it addressed should be your number one priority. If you live in Longmont, Boulder, Louisville, or the surrounding areas, you can count on Nixcavating, Inc. for quality sewer line services.
Request a ProposalNixcavating has extensive experience installing septic tanks and leach fields throughout Boulder, Larimer and surrounding counties. We are able to haul away or abandon in place your existing septic tank and field, and replace it with the newest technology and engineered recommendations. Our relationships with the local wastewater engineers has been priceless to our experience, and we often help consult on the buildability of their designs, saving our customers both time and money.
If you encounter an issue with your septic system, your first troubleshooting step is to get your tank pumped and if applicable, your effluent filter cleaned. Nixcavating does not pump tanks, but would be happy to pass along recommendations of vendors we’ve worked with before. If that doesn’t solve your concern, and you know the issue is not in your sewer line between your home and the septic tank, your next step would be to visit your counties website. Your county will specify their process, but generally would require a soils test and could require a design by an engineer.
When you need septic system services in Boulder or Larimer County, you can depend on the Nixcavating crew. We are Northern Colorado’s trusted excavation company delivering quality services you can trust!
If your septic tank or leach field is acting up, there are a few common fail points.
Effluent Filter/Screen – removable , cleanable (or disposable) device installed on the outlet piping of a septic tank for the purpose of retaining solids larger than a specific size and/or modifying effluent flow rate.
D-Box (Distribution Box) – tank or container (concrete or plastic) that receives the septic tank effluent and re-distributes the wastewater to the leach field
Pipe Offset at the Inlet/Outlet of your Septic Tank – due to natural dirt settlement or tree and bush roots, the sewer pipe that enters the septic tank, or leaves the septic tank can settle or move, and create an offset of the pipe, causing backup
Leach Field Leakage – soil types vary by regions, and over time, the dirt around the leach field can become saturated and/or not effectively hold/drain liquids as designed
Due to the high possibility of ground water contamination from a faulty septic system, they are closely monitored by the state and county, and require a permit before building a new system or fixing the existing one. Please visit your counties website for more information and to start the permit process.
