Nixcavating has been ensuring its customers’ foundations are built upon a solid base, since 1982. We’re proud of our local reputation, and its been earned by our meticulous attention to detail and our commitment to doing work the right way, and not cutting corners. A structure is only as solid as it’s foundation, which is why we believe in taking the extra time to get the job done right.
Nixcavating has had the pleasure of working on some of the most beautiful homes in Boulder County and surrounding areas. Our work with some of the most premier custom home builders in the area has given us valuable insight to help anticipate solutions for the inevitable obstacles that arise during any construction project. The owners and General Contractors can feel confident that we have seen the issue before, and we know just what to do to overcome it.
We offer comprehensive excavation and backfill solutions for residential and commercial projects of all sizes. Our seasoned team has the expertise and equipment to handle everything from minor landscaping excavations to major construction site preparation.
If your native soil at your site is not suitable for building, your soils report created by the engineers would dictate the soil be over-excavated and recompacted. Essentially, we would dig out a larger area around the foundation dig, and replace that material with engineer directed material.
Nixcavating is has extensive experience excavating and backfilling for foundation and footings, but – what’s the difference? Without getting too in the weeds, a foundation would be your typical basement. The concrete walls are tall, and the concrete floor, or slab, creates a waterproof and dirt proof area. Footers are what you might notice in a garage or crawlspace, they are concrete walls, about 4’ tall, half of which will be underground. The wood studs will be attached to the concrete footers, ensuring the structure is stable and won’t budge. The floor inside the footing structure can be native or gravel, like in the case of a crawlspace or pole barn, or have a concrete building pad, like you’d see in an attached residential garage.
What do you do when your intrest rate is under 3%, and you want to keep your yard space? You either pop the top, and build up, or you can excavate deeper and build down. Some of our favorite and most challenging projects include excavating for, or enlarging a basement under an existing home.

Backfilling is the process of putting soil back into a foundation or trench once the excavation project is completed. This requires heavy equipment, comprehension of the specifications, and most importantly, a competent crew.
When performing a backfill service, our licensed operators will take care to prevent impact loading of pipelines or other buried components, with special consideration taken when filling and compacting trenches for underground utility lines.
Since excavating and backfilling are vital for a successful construction project, Nixcavating, Inc. follows stringent guidelines and safety measures to ensure optimal results.
