How long will it take to complete my excavation project?

The timeline for an excavation project depends on its size and complexity.  *We will provide an estimate of project length on the proposal, upon request

What permits do I need for my excavation project?

Nixcavating will apply for your permits and handle inspection requests, and unless your permit is included in your estimate, will be billed to you at our cost.

Repairs For Underground Utilities:

  • Generally speaking, if we are working on your water or sewer line, we will need a utility permit.
  • If the work on your water or sewer line is in the easement, a City sidewalk, or street, in addition to a utility permit, we will need a Right of Way (ROW) permit. The cost of a Right a Way permit is based on the cost of materials and amount of work in the ROW.

New Installs & Upsize Service For Underground Utilities:

  • If you are doing a large remodel project, many times the utility permit is included in your building permit, however, the Right of Way portion would be excluded and we could handle that application and permit for you.
  • If you are upsizing your water line, you would need to apply for and pay for the new tap fee with your water provider, and Nixcavating would handle applying for the utility and ROW permit for you.
  • If you are switching from a septic system to a City or municipal sewer connection, you would need to apply for and pay for the new tap fee with your sewer service provider, and Nixcavating would handle applying for the utility and ROW permit for you

Miscellaneous Permits:

  • There are many different types of permits required throughout the area by local and state municipalities. For certain types of projects, the job will need to get both state and local permits
  • CDOT permit are required when work is along a state highway, even if we’re just working under the sidewalk (e.g. Main Street in Longmont)
  • Construction Storm Water Discharge permits, required by the Clean Water Act, ensure discharge from construction activities returns to waterways clean
  • Grading Permit requirements vary by area, but is generally required when land disturbance is greater than one acre
  • A Colorado Demolition Permit ensures asbestos abatement and landfill designation, and is required before local demolition permits can be pulled
