How much does excavation cost?

The cost of excavation would vary, based on the depth needed, type of soils present, availability to store excavated soil on site, and whether we need to remove/replace hard surfaces such as concrete or asphalt. Contact us for a detailed estimate.

How long will it take to complete my excavation project?

The timeline for an excavation project depends on its size and complexity. *We will provide an estimate of project length on the proposal, upon request

What permits do I need for my excavation project?

Nixcavating will apply for your permits and handle inspection requests, and unless your permit is included in your estimate, will be billed to you at our cost.

For Underground Utility Repairs:

  • Generally speaking, if we are working on your water or sewer line, we will need a utility permit.
  • If the work on your water or sewer line is in the easement, a City sidewalk, or street, in addition to a utility permit, we will need a Right of Way (ROW) permit. The cost of a Right a Way permit is based on the cost of materials and amount of work in the ROW.

For Underground Utility Installs:

  • If you are doing a large remodel project, many times the utility permit is included in your building permit, however, the Right of Way portion would be excluded and we could handle that application and permit for you.
  • If you are upsizing your water line, you would need to apply for and pay for the new tap fee with your water provider, and Nixcavating would handle applying for the utility and ROW permit for you.
  • If you are switching from a septic system to a City or municipal sewer connection, you would need to apply for and pay for the new tap fee with your sewer service provider, and Nixcavating would handle applying for the utility and ROW permit for you
  • There are many different types of permits required throughout the area by local and state municipalities. For certain types of projects, the job will need to get state and local permits
  • CDOT permit, is required when work is along a state highway
  • Construction Storm Water Discharge permits required by the Clean Water Act, ensuring discharge from construction activities returns to waterways clean
  • Grading Permit, varies by area, but is generally required when land disturbance is greater than one acre
Colorado Demolition Permit, ensures asbestos abatement and landfill designation, and is required before local demolition permits can be pulled
Do you offer any warranties or guarantees?
  • For residential work, we offer a 100% guarantee on all of our work, and the supplies and materials we use, for up to 5 years*. If you have any issues regarding your pipe repair or installation, or if there is any unnatural dirt settling – let us know, and we will make it right – for FREE. We believe there is only one way to do things – the right way. Give us a call and find out what that means for your home.
*Guarantee only applies to the direct work area we encounter, i.e. for a spot sewer repair, we will only guarantee the section of the line we fixed, not the entire sewer line. No payment, or late payment in excess of 90 days, makes our guarantee on the project null and void.
  • For commercial or municipal work, we offer warranties as dictated by the contract.
Can you provide references from past clients?

Yes, we can provide references from satisfied past clients upon request.

Are you licensed and insured?
  • We generally hold about 15 – 20 licenses, in many Cities and Towns throughout the area
  • We hold $2MM coverage for General Liability, with an additional $2MM Aggregate Umbrella policy. We also hold $1MM Pollution Liability and Workers Compensation coverage.
  • Nixcavating also requires our subcontractors to hold licenses and be adequately insured
How can I find a reputable excavation company?
  • You can request recommendations from your water or sewer provider
  • You can ask your neighbors, if they’ve had similar work completed
  • The most important step you should complete is to request estimates from three different businesses. We might not always be low bid, but we do have a great reputation of customer satisfaction.
Do I need to be present during the excavation work?
  • No, in fact, you might prefer to be gone. Our equipment is loud, smelly and disruptive.
  • There are occasions when we might need access to your home, our you might lose water service temporarily, but that will be communicated with by your estimator and/or project supervisor
What should I do if there are underground utilities?
  • For liability reasons, we need to call in the public utility locates (811), which generally takes 3 days.
  • If you have an emergency, which would include service outage, or potential damage to property, we are able to call in emergency locates that will be fulfilled within one hour, during regular business hours.
  • If you have known private utilities, please communicate to your estimator. If you have unknown private utilities, we are able to help locate for you.
What safety measures do you take during excavation?

We prioritize safety by using proper equipment, following safety protocols, and ensuring worker awareness of potential hazards. Personal safety gear is mandatory on-site. It is the policy of NIXCAVATING that every employee is entitled to work under the safest possible conditions in the construction industry. To this end, every reasonable effort shall be made in the interest of accident prevention. Our top priority is to provide safe and healthy working conditions and to eliminate hazards that can cause injury to workers or damage to property and equipment.

Can I supply my own materials or work on the project for a discount?

Customers cannot work on the project due to safety and liability concerns. You may supply your own materials, but we will not be responsible for any issues arising from them.

“I have dealt with Nixcavating several times on different jobs around my small farm. I hesitate to write a great review simply because I want to keep them to myself! But they deserve the best review I can give, so 10 stars to these fine folks. They are attentive, fair, thorough, honest, and they always make sure that I am 100% satisfied before they finish. You will not find another company of this type that is better than Nixcavating.”
